As we begin committee weeks for the 2019 Legislative Session, the Florida Ports Council is excited about the opportunity to work with our newly elected and appointed officials to build on the successes we have seen from Florida seaports over the past several years. Since 2012, strategic port investments aimed at connecting commerce have resulted in maritime activities with an economic value of more than $117 billion – a $15 billion increase, representing 13% of the state’s GDP. Governor Ron DeSantis Readies His Leadership Team

Now that Ron DeSantis has been sworn in as Florida’s 46th governor, his team of leaders overseeing top agency positions that directly report to him are nearly all in place. Governor DeSantis has both recommended political veterans and has reached across the political aisle in selecting his top leadership recruits. The Florida Chamber of Commerce has provided a list of details on the DeSantis leadership team. Please note that all agencies are not listed as some do not have an appointed secretary yet.

Vern Buchanan Chosen to Lead Republicans on House Trade Subcommittee

Buchanan said he would use his new assignment to help the Sunshine State and the rest of the nation, pointing out that trade supports 2.3 million jobs in Florida and adds tens of billions to the state’s economy, including through its 15 ports
