Port Panama City to Commission Biomass Dome
The Panama City Port Authority will officially commission its new biomass dome on November 7 during a ceremony at the port.
Port Panama City’s new $20 million biomass dome storage facility will allow the port to store more wood pellets, further strengthening its biomass export capabilities.
According to Alex King, Port Panama City Port Director, strengthening this Gulf Coast port’s biomass capabilities will help create more jobs in the long-term.
“We’re seeing an increase in hiring for the port. We’re going to add a couple of full-time employees to handle the additional ton that’s coming through the dome,” King explained.
The dome itself will help agribusiness, specifically timber industry agribusiness jobs in Jackson County. Specifically, loggers and truckers will see increased activity, as well as rail, as more wood pellets come through the port.
