Rooms to Go to Receive Port Tampa Bay Captain James McKay Achievement Award
Rooms To Go will be the 2024 recipient of the Captain James McKay Port Achievement Award, which will be presented at this year’s Anchor Ball, taking place on December 7, 2024. This award is given annually to a company or individual in recognition of their contribution over many years to the economic development of Port Tampa Bay and the maritime community.
Launched in 1991, and headquartered in Seffner, Florida, Rooms To Go is the nation’s largest independent furniture retailer with more than 150 showrooms in 10 states throughout the Southeast and Texas. Rooms To Go established its first retail showroom in Orlando, Florida in 1991. Today, the company employs more than 10,000 associates in retail and manufacturing, with sales of over $3.54 billion in 2023. In addition to its full-line furniture showrooms, the company has Rooms To Go Kids & Teens, showrooms dedicated to children’s furniture including exclusive licensed Disney products and Rooms To Go Patio.
Giving back to the community is a significant part of the culture at Rooms To Go, which iscommitted to supporting deserving organizations including the Boys and Girls Club, Jeff Gordon’s Children’s Center, Beds for Kids, Camp Twin Lakes for children with serious illness, Moffitt Cancer Center, St. Joseph’s Hospital, furniture banks like Mustard Seed of Central Florida, veteran’s groups and many more.
Rooms To Go is one of the largest containerized cargo importers in the United States, with over 3 million square feet of distribution center space in Seffner and Lakeland, Florida. The support of Rooms To Go was instrumental in Port Tampa Bay’s emergence as an important container port in recent years. Jeffery Seaman is the CEO of Rooms To Go and last year was inducted into the American Home Furnishings Hall of Fame. Ali Hosein, VP of International Freight and Merchandising is responsible for Rooms To Go’s global transportation and logistics.
This year’s Anchor Ball will be held on Saturday, December 7, 2024, at the TPepin Hospitality Centre and is the annual gala event for the Port Tampa Bay maritime industry. Proceeds from the Anchor Ball will benefit the Tampa Port Ministries Seafarer’s Center, which serves visiting ships’ crews, typically of very modest means, who spend months at sea away from their families. The USF Health College of Nursing recently opened a first-of-its-kind Seafarers’ Clinic, housed at the Seafarers’ Center to serve these deserving essential workers. Proceeds from the Anchor Ball also benefit the Tampa Bay Maritime Scholarship Foundation, which supports graduating students of the Jefferson High School Maritime & Marine Science Leadership Academy in pursuing careers in the maritime industry.
