After New Year’s Celebrations, Legislative Session Gets Underway

Shortly after New Year’s celebrations, lawmakers will get down to business when the 2022 Legislative Session begins on January 11.

In early December, Governor Ron DeSantis unveiled his budget proposals, and during the 60-day legislative session, a budget is the only bill lawmakers are required to pass. However, with redistricting underway, lawmakers will also be busy finalizing new legislative district maps. Expect additional higher profile issues to be debated, including extending a COVID-19 liability shield for health care workers, property insurance reforms, water quality issues and more.

From gavel-to-gavel, the Florida Ports Council will be there, advocating on behalf of Florida’s seaports. Port legislative staff are encouraged to participate in our weekly update meetings. Contact Emily Fisher at Emily.fisher@flaports.org for details.
