Port Everglades and its marine terminal partner Florida International Terminal, LLC, (FIT) today welcomed ocean-shipping giant CMA CGM to Broward County with the start of the FLAMINGO EXPRESS weekly service to and from the U.S. Virgin Islands, the Bahamas and the Caribbean with links to Asia and Europe.

“This is the start of an advantageous partnership between Port Everglades and one of the largest cargo shipping companies in the world,” said Port Everglades Chief Executive and Port Director Jonathan Daniels, who was on hand to welcome Captain Olexandr Barbalat, master of CMA CGM’s Janina for the first call of the FLAMINGO EXPRESS.

The FLAMINGO EXPRESS offers weekly service between Fort Lauderdale, the U.S. Virgin Islands, the Bahamas, St. Martin and Haiti aboard the CMA CGM owned and operated vessels Regula and Janina. Cargo will be transshipped globally through Kingston, Jamaica.

“We echo Jonathan Daniels’ sentiments in welcoming CMA CGM’s Flamingo Express service to Port Everglades. We are honored to be able to have this new vessel service call our terminal operation here at FIT,” said Justin P. Weir, President & General Manager of Florida International Terminal, LLC, the marine terminal cargo handler for CMA CGM.
