Florida Ports Council Briefs Florida’s Congressional Ports Caucus on Importance of Passing Federal Legislation on Seaport Policy
TALLAHASSEE, Fla. (July 9, 2013) – This morning, the Florida Ports Council briefed the Florida Congressional Ports Caucus on top seaport issues, specifically discussing the Water Resources Development Act (WRDA) and its importance to Florida seaports. FPC staff was joined by officials from the Florida Department of Transportation in providing information on WRDA’s impact on Florida, and the meeting was attended by a majority of the Florida Ports Caucus.
“Florida seaports are encouraged by the active and engaged discussion with Florida Congressional Ports Caucus members and staff on the urgent policy issues encompassed by WRDA,” said Doug Wheeler, president and CEO of the Florida Ports Council. “We believe that it is critical to pass language to improve the project approval process at the federal level, as well as other policy improvements, to assist Florida ports’ efforts in growing the economy and continuing to position Florida as a global hub for business.”
