Newly Elected Congressman Patronis Assigned to Transportation Committee

Newly elected Congressman Jimmy Patronis recently announced his appointment to the United States House of Representatives Standing Committee on Transportation and Infrastructure (T&I). In addition to the T&I Committee, Congressman Patronis is expected to serve on the Subcommittee on Aviation, Coast Guard and Subcommittee on Maritime Transportation, and the Subcommittee on Water Resources and Environment.

Congressman Jimmy Patronis said, “Thank you to Speaker Johnson, Majority Leader Steve Scalise, Majority Whip Tom Emmer, T&I Chairman Sam Graves, and Congressmen Brian Jack and Richard Hudson for the honor of being appointed to the House Transportation and Infrastructure Committee. With over 1,000 people moving to Florida every day, our roadways, waterways, and infrastructure are essential to our nation’s economy and national security. During major storms, Florida roadways become critical tools for hurricane evacuation during states of emergency. Also, maintaining our roads, bridges, ports, and waterways are vital to ensuring a steady flow of commerce. I am also laser focused on ensuring dollars intended for infrastructure go to the right place, and work to eliminate any red tape that slows project delivery times. I look forward to working alongside my fellow colleagues on this committee to ensure our nation’s infrastructure is second to none in the new golden age of America.”

T&I Chairman Sam Graves said, “I’m excited for Congressman Patronis to roll up his sleeves and help the Transportation and Infrastructure Committee with our full agenda this Congress. We will be working with the Trump Administration to ensure the safety of our aviation system, funding improvements to our ports and waterways infrastructure, and providing the U.S. Coast Guard with the resources they need to carry out their many critical missions, including stopping the flow of illegal drugs and migrants into the country across our maritime borders. The Committee will also work to pass major legislation that authorizes highway, bridge, and other surface transportation projects across the country, and Congressman Patronis’ legislative experience at the state level will be invaluable to all these efforts.”

The Transportation and Infrastructure Committee has jurisdiction over all modes of transportation: aviation, maritime and waterborne transportation, highways, bridges, mass transit, and railroads. The Committee also has jurisdiction over other aspects of our national infrastructure, such as clean water and wastewater management, the transport of resources by pipeline, flood damage reduction, the management of federally owned real estate and public buildings, the development of economically depressed rural and urban areas, disaster preparedness and response, and hazardous materials transportation. The Committee’s broad oversight portfolio includes many federal agencies, including the Department of Transportation, the U.S. Coast Guard, Amtrak, the Environmental Protection Agency, the Federal Emergency Management Agency, the General Services Administration, the Army Corps of Engineers, and others.
