Port of Palm Beach Accepting Internship Applications

The Port of Palm Beach is accepting applications for its highly anticipated, award-winning Summer Internship Program. This paid internship offers 2025 high school graduates (who will be enrolled in college in 2025) and current university, college and trade school students the opportunity to gain hands-on work experience and learn valuable skills in various fields within the port industry.

“We believe it’s critical to invest in the next generation, to teach them about the industry, and, more importantly, to treat them like family,” said Port of Palm Beach Executive Director Michael Meekins.

The eight-week program provides interns with comprehensive training and real-world experience across several departments, including Accounting/Finance/Procurement, Administration, Communications, Engineering, Facilities, Human Resources, Information Technology (IT), Ozinga Cement Terminal, Port Operations, and Tenant Relations. Interns will work on meaningful projects, gaining knowledge and skills that can easily translate to any career field.

In addition to their primary duties, interns will have the unique opportunity to learn about the port’s operations through local field trips known as Port Activity Days, where they will visit different operations and gain a deeper understanding of the port’s diverse functions. This year, the Port of Palm Beach has enhanced the program with additional activities designed to enrich the interns’ experience and further develop their skills.

Last October, the American Association of Port Authorities honored the Port of Palm Beach with an award of excellence in Port Administration for its Summer Internship Program.

“While the program has been well received by our interns, we’ve actively sought new ways to enhance the experience,” said Port of Palm Beach District Board Chairman Blair Ciklin. “This year, we’ve introduced exciting new activities, including an intern showcase, volunteer day, and specialized workshops, to continue building on the success of the program and provide even more valuable learning opportunities for future leaders in the port industry.”

The program is funded by the Port and five of its tenants, including Tropical ShippingOzinga, South Florida MaterialsE.N. Bisso, and Florida Sugar and Molasses Exchange.

Applications are being accepted through April 20. For more information and to submit an application, please visit the Port of Palm Beach Summer Internship Program webpage.
