PortMiami Begins LNG Bunkering
The MV SEABOARD BLUE recently became the first vessel to be bunkered with LNG at PortMiami. Shell carried out the bunkering using its Q4000 bunker barge. The SEABOARD BLUE’s inaugural sailing to Honduras and Guatemala followed soon after.
The SEABOARD BLUE, previously known as MV ELBBLUE, was the world’s first container vessel to be retrofitted to accept both LNG and diesel fuel. With a capacity of 1000 TEUs, it was retrofitted in 2017 and is now homeported in PortMiami as part of Seaboard Marine’s North Central America Service.
According to Eddie Gonzalez, President and CEO of Seaboard Marine, the SEABOARD BLUE is a key component of the company’s fleet transformation. Gonzalez expressed gratitude to the Miami Dade Mayor, Daniella Levine Cava, PortMiami, Shell, the United States Coast Guard, and the Biscayne Bay Pilots for their support in this project.
Mayor Daniella Levine Cava praised Seaboard Marine’s adoption of greener fuel sources as a significant step towards keeping Miami Dade at the forefront of sustainability.
