PortMiami Shines Brightly with Largest Cruise Terminal, MSC’s Largest Cruise Ship

It’s a busy few weeks for PortMiami as the MSC World American, the newest and largest for MSC, prepares to debut next month. And when it does debut, it will sail from its new home in Miami where MSC has just put a bow on the world’s largest cruise terminal.

MSC Cruises recently took delivery of its newest cruise ship, the World America, which is a 22-deck ship grossing at 216,638 tons. It’s the second of its World Class, but the first heading to North America.

Pared into seven districts, World America features 19 dining venues, 18 bars and lounges, and outdoor adventure area with water park, a ropes course and over-the-water swing called Cliffhanger, a shopping district and the line’s largest version of its MSC Yacht Club for suite guests.

Ahead of its arrival at PortMiami, MSC Cruises threw a party for what will be its new home in Miami at the world’s largest cruise terminal. The MSC Cruises facility is 492,000 square feet and accommodate up to three ships at the same time moving on and off 36,000 passengers a day. It also includes a 2,400-spaces parking garage.

“Our new cruise terminal is the most advanced in the world, designed to offer a seamless experience for our guests before and after their cruise, setting a new benchmark for the industry,” said Pierfrancesco Vago, executive chairman of MSC Group’s cruise division. “This proud moment reflects our unwavering commitment to Miami and its vibrant community, a partnership that spans over 20 years.”

The new MSC terminal joins revamped Miami terminals in recent years from Royal Caribbean, Norwegian Cruise Line, Carnival Cruise Line and Virgin Voyages, adding another modern flair to the port.

The four-story terminal is set up to take advantage of shore power offered at the port with Florida Power & Light, allowing docked ships to turn off their engines while docked.

The terminal will host four MSC Cruises ships this year as well as the company’s luxury brand Explora Journeys with its Explora I returning to Miami in November. The line’s fleet has grown to 23 ships making it the world’s third largest cruise line behind Carnival and Royal Caribbean.
