President’s Message: May 2025

Mike Rubin President & CEO

Leaders from Florida’s 16 seaports have just returned to the Sunshine State following four days of meetings with members of Florida’s Congressional Delegation as part of our DC Fly-In.

Florida’s ports remain indispensable to the state’s economic stability and growth. Our system of seaports contributes $196 billion to Florida’s economy, accounts for 1.2 million jobs, and represents a strong 12.2 percent of the state’s $1.6 trillion GDP.

These numbers reflect more than commerce – they signal the strength of Florida’s position in the global supply chain. That’s why we continue to support forward-thinking investments to expand capacity and ensure long-term competitiveness.

We’re very thankful for the time our members of Congress were able to spend with us, and their strong commitments to keeping Florida’s seaports competitive.

Thank you to the port directors from Port Canaveral, Port Everglades, Port Panama City and Port of Fort Pierce that were able to attend, and port leaders from JAXPORT, SeaPort Manatee, Port Tampa Bay and PortMiami that also participated.

Florida port leaders also commend the Florida Ports Caucus and Rep. Frederica Wilson for their continuing effort in uniting our delegation in support of our ports as key economic engines.

Back in Florida, lawmakers have extended the 2025 Legislative Session to finalize the new fiscal year state budget. The Florida Senate has extended until June 6, while the House has agreed to extend through the month of June. We remain hopeful that the final budget allocations are strong and will help keep Florida’s supply chain moving forward.

Thank you for your continued support of Florida’s seaports.
