Tropical Shipping christens the last of six new ships

- Port of Palm Beach

Port of Palm Beach’s largest tenant, Tropical Shipping, has added six new ships to its fleet.

On Monday, November 4, the company christened the Tropic Lissette. She is the final ship in the series of six new vessels built in China. The company invested almost $150 million to have the ships built in China.

“These ships along with the redeployment of a lot of other ships, have improved our on time reliability, they have given us more capacity and, most importantly they have allowed us to better serve our customers and to reaffirm our commitment to island life,” said Jeff Fiser, President and CEO of Tropical Shipping.

The Tropic Lissette is named after the wife of Rick Murrell, Chairman of Tropical Shipping.

“I want to thank you for this honor of being godmother of this great ship,” said Lissette Murrell.

During the ceremony, Lissette Murrell gave her blessing and officially named the ship. Then a bottle of champagne traveled down a rope and into the ship’s hull.

Port of Palm Beach Director Manuel Almira presented Tropical Shipping with a personalized award for the company’s commitment and partnership for the last 56 years.
